DE PERE (WLUK) -- A smartphone app concept designed by De Pere Middle School students has won a prize in a national contest.

The app, Pass It On, is designed to encourage students to combat bullying. It won the Fan Favorite vote in the Verizon Innovative Learning App Challenge. The prize includes a $15,000 grant, training and support from the MIT App Inventor Group, and a trip for students and a parent to the National Technology Student Association conference in Florida in June.

The app design previously won Best in State and Best in Region awards.

An assembly is planned for Friday at De Pere Middle School.
