GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- The man whose body was found in the East River Thursday had been reported missing in December, police say.

The body of Ryan Riebe, 25, was pulled from the river Thursday afternoon. The search for Riebe began Dec. 22, when police and firefighters were called to the river near the 1000 block of University Avenue to investigate shoe and bicycle prints found on the ice. Officers believe he walked south across the river, but fell through the ice before he could make it to the south bank.

Because conditions were not safe for a dive team search that day, officers used sonar, but could not find Riebe.

Riebe's family officially reported him missing two days later.

The dive team had been searching the river using sonar during the month of March. Thursday morning, divers identified an area of interest to search, and before they went into the water, the noticed the body.

The Brown County Medical Examiner's office later confirmed it was Riebe's body.
