GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- Green Bay police are trying to make a difference for area youth.

Officers handed out cool treats Tuesday as part of an effort to connect with young people.

The department says it's making more efforts to engage with community members.

Officers say it's important to invest in young people.

"The kids are our future, that's who we want to be part of this community," said Green Bay police officer, Andrew Lentz. "I don't think it could get a better job than handing out free ice cream to kids; it's a ton of fun, absolutely love every minute of it. "

The ice cream was paid for with the same donation that helped the officers donate backpacks with school supplies to area students.
