Green Bay organization announces plans for community bike shop
GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- A group of biking enthusiasts hope to encourage more people to ride bicycles with a new community bike shop in Green Bay.
The Green Bay Bicycle Collective announced its plans Friday.
The non-profit group is made up of cyclists and biking advocates.
The community bike shop will be located in the 4th Street Garage, off South Broadway.
It will offer bicycle maintenance workshops and residents will be allowed to work on their bikes.
There will also be an "earn-a-bike" program.
Green Bay's mayor, Jim Schmitt, supports the initiative, "I think this is going to be fun for the neighborhood and good for Green Bay and we'd like to replicate this in the future."
The Green Bay Bicycle Collective says it will use the rest of the current biking season to build its list of volunteers, and create its inventory for the shop.
It's going to be leasing the space from the city of Green Bay for $1 a year.
