Gray charged in pregnant woman's overdose death
GREEN BAY (WLUK) – Shawn Gray was formally charged Friday for his alleged role in the overdose death of Jennifer Skeen.
Also charged in the case is Cassie Nygren – Gray’s girlfriend, and the daughter of State Rep. John Nygren.
Gray faces 14 counts, including two counts of first-degree reckless homicide, two counts of heroin delivery, failing to proper register sex offender information, and failure to stop.
Gray and Nygren allegedly sold Skeen, who was pregnant at the time, drugs shortly before she died in June. Skeen overdosed on fentanyl, investigators have said.
According to the criminal complaint, Gray claims he did not deliver drugs to Skeen and also said he didn't like to sell drugs to other people:
"I only have about 3 to 4 different customers as I do not like to sell them drugs. I feel bad perpetuating the drug trade as I know how bad it makes me feel. On the other hand it is hard for me to say no to someone that is sick because they need drugs and going through withdrawals (dope sick) because I know how that feels, so I succumb in helping them get the drugs."
Gray is expected in court Friday afternoon for an initial appearance. Nygren, who was charged Thursday, returns to court Nov. 8 for a preliminary hearing.
