GRAND CHUTE - Grand Chute authorities are investigating what they believe is a meth lab at a hotel.

Several rooms are still evacuated at the La Quinta Inn on College Avenue. Investigators have been there much of the day.

Police tell FOX 11 someone called them at about 9 a.m. saying they noticed something that smelled like ether. By noon, police and fire officials had a full scale drug investigation at the hotel.

People are being kept out of the rooms surrounding the suspected drug lab, as a health precaution.

Police say a 38-year-old Menasha man had been in the room for two days. He was arrested along with another 38-year-old Fox Valley man, both for outstanding warrants.

Two Appleton women, ages 32 and 23, were detained and could be arrested depending on what investigators find.

Police say they don't believe this was a large-scale drug operation, but dangerous nonetheless.

“Number one it's a huge safety issue just for the other guests that are in the motel and then individuals that would be stopping by the room or purchasing the drug that was being manufactured brings other problems to the community,” said Sgt. Randy Reifsteck of the Grand Chute Police Department.

The county health department will inspect the rooms after the investigation wraps up.

Police say they are referring drug manufacturing charges for three of the four people they found in the room.
