Gordon Bubolz Nature Preserve offers sneak peek of new lodge
APPLETON (WLUK) -- A multi-million dollar environmental center at the Gordon Bubolz Nature Preserve is nearly complete.
The facility in Appleton gave a sneak peek of the center, which is named, "The Lodge."
Construction of the $5.5 million center began in May.
It is being built using sustainable products including pieces of the old center.
Thousands of kids take field trips to the preserve each year.
Some had to be turned away because the space wasn't large enough.
"With this new facility, we will have the space, we will have the capacity and we will be hiring new staff to accommodate these needs," said Gordon Bubolz Nature Preserve executive director, Randy Tuma.
The nature preserve also unveiled design plans for what it says is one of the largest and most-advanced microgrids in the Midwest.
The grid will provide power to the nature center as well as the entire nature preserve.
The new center is set to open Jan. 1, 2018.
