GREEN BAY - The Salvation Army of Brown County says it struck gold during last week's Christmas in July campaign.Someone dropped a gold coin into a red kettle on Saturday, the last day of Christmas in July. The one-ounce South African Krugerrand is estimated to be worth between $1,300 and $1,400."It was a great surprise. We've received gold coins during our Christmas Campaign, but haven't received one during Christmas in July," Maj. Don Kincaid, Brown County Coordinator for The Salvation Army, said in a news release."We are still calculating our Christmas in July total and the numbers are going to be close, so this extra help is very important."Associated Bank employees discovered the coin while counting red kettle funds, the Salvation Army said.
