APPLETON - The Gardens of the Fox Cities are re-opening as the Memorial Park Gardens. In January, a private group that operated the gardens announced they would be closing because of financial troubles. However, the city of Appleton decided to take over the gardens, which are located in Memorial Park on the city's north side.City leaders announced Thursday that the gardens are once again open to visitors, volunteers, walking and hiking on the trails and attending recreational programs. The Scheig Center within the gardens is also available to be reserved for events such as weddings, company meetings and family reunions. The city plans to start taking reservations on May 19, for events beginning June 16.The city says it plans to re-assess the long-term options for operating the gardens.
