Wind shoves ice ashore at Lakeside Park
FOND DU LAC (WLUK) -- Thanks to Winter Storm Donna, ice has piled up near the southern end of Lake Winnebago.
You can get a glimpse of the ice shoves along the shoreline at Lakeside Park in Fond du Lac.
With a cellphone in hand, a man in the distance decided he needed a closer look and snapped a few photos.
Lisa Horton couldn't wait to see the large chunks of ice.
"We were coming around here to check out because I noticed by the pavilion, it's getting really high and over here, those look like they're about eight feet above the ground," said Lisa Horton.
She lives in Fond du Lac and on this day, Lakeside Park is the perfect place to see the natural phenomenon.
"I like to check them out and, actually, if you can find a place that you don't freeze too badly, sometimes they make some interesting noises. They creek and groan and such," she said.
But, this time around, the wind is the only sound coming off the lake.
Some things just can't compete with Mother Nature. The shoves pushed a light pole over.
About a half mile away, ducks sit along the shore while a couple of geese waddle across a thin sheet of ice.
As the wind continues to whip its way through the park, Horton decided its time to brave the cold.
"I think we just might have to take a peek so we can get some shots of this," she said.
