Teen dead after accidental shooting in Waupaca Co.
FARMINGTON, Wis. (WLUK) -- The Waupaca County Sheriff's Office says a 15-year-old boy died after being accidentally shot by a 17-year-old friend.
It happened before 1 p.m. Wednesday on Rieben Road in the Town of Farmington.
The boy, Jacob Peglow of Waupaca, was shot in the shoulder and chest area with a .22 caliber firearm, Sheriff Brad Hardel said. People at the scene helped the teen until paramedics arrived, but he didn't survive.
Investigators say the teens were playing with the gun, which they did not think was loaded.
Sheriff's officials don't anticipate any charges being filed, calling it a "tragic accident."
Counseling services are being offered to the families and responding officers. Counseling services are also being sought for friends of the victim at his school.
"Kids being kids," Waupaca County Sheriff Brad Hardel said.
But that led to one teenage boy accidentally shooting and killing another teenage boy, according to Hardel.
"Just an unfortunate accident," he said.
