Students participate in free fishing clinic
OSHKOSH (WLUK) -- To help grow the next generation of anglers, students were able to get outside Friday and cast a line. It was part of a clinic held in Oshkosh throughout the day.
The participants learned about different kinds of fish.
They also learned how to bait a hook, and safely cast a line.
The non-profit, "Learn 2 Fish With Us" hosted the event.
Organizers say interest in fishing has been dwindling, and clinics are the best way to show kids how fun fishing can be.
"We feel like kids have migrated away from these wonderful family events, we all grew up," said Patti Purcell, Learn 2 Fish With Us. "I grew up fishing on this body of water right here. That's why I participate in this organisation, because I want kids to have those experience like I did with our families."
The students were from Webster Middle School.
Around 140 children were able to participate.
