GRAND CHUTE (WLUK) -- Authorities have cleared the scene of a standoff in Grand Chute without the suspect in custody.

Police say they searched the apartment building the suspect was believed to be in, but he wasn't there.

Earlier Thursday afternoon, police were called to an apartment in the 3000 block of W. 4th Street, east of Bluemound Drive.

Police say there was a dispute between a man and a woman, involving a gun.

The Grand Chute Police Chief says the man took the gun from the woman and the woman ran out of the apartment with the man still inside the building with the gun.

There were children in the apartment when the incident happened, but they were brought out safely.

The other apartments in the building were evacuated.

More than four hours later, residents were allowed back into their apartments.

Authorities say they are still looking for the man. They do not believe the public is in danger.
