APPLETON (WLUK) -- The Appleton Police Department is celebrating police week with a brat fry.

The event was held at Houdini Plaza in downtown Appleton on May 17.

Burgers, hot dogs and brats were on the menu, and each cost around one to two dollars.

Police vehicles were also on display.

The event is the primary fundraiser for the Appleton Police Explorer Post.

"It's for young men and ladies who are interested in a possible career in law enforcement," said Sergeant Dave Lund, Appleton Police Department. "So the explorers you'll see often at special events in Appleton helping us out with traffic control. especially big events like the Flag Day Parade."

Because of previous donations, each child at the event received a free bike helmet.
