Updated: Officer-involved shooting in Appleton

APPLETON - Authorities in Appleton say an officer was involved in a shooting on the south side of the city.

It happened around 7 p.m. Thursday on the 1300 block of South Monroe St., near St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Appleton police say the suspect was injured and is in custody. No officers were hurt.

Police say officers were responding to a shoplifting complaint. They say when officers arrived, the suspect pulled out a gun.

Authorities say the officers told the man to drop his weapon, and they say when he didn't, officers fired.

The man was taken to the hospital.

Police would not say what business the suspect targeted, but police say it was on South Oneida St.

The Green Bay Police Department is helping with the investigation.
