New London considers wheel tax
NEW LONDON (WLUK) – New London is a step closer to having a $20 wheel tax.
The City Council voted 9-1 Tuesday to enact the tax, which would go into effect Jan. 1, according to city administrator Ken Hager.
A second reading and vote by the council is required, and is expected at the Sept. 12 meeting.
The fee would raise $180,000 annually, which could only be used for transportation projects. It would be levied on all cars registered within the city limits, in addition to the state’s registration fee.
