At 6:47 Sunday morning, a number of calls started rolling into the 911 communications center.
Caller after caller told officials they saw a naked man walking on the northbound lanes of Highway 441 in Appleton.
The Appleton Police Department said when a 22-year-old woman pulled off the highway to near the E. College Avenue exit to call police, the naked man attacked her.
"While she was stopped, he charged at her vehicle and was somehow able to get her driver side door open, he punched her repeatedly and she was able to fend him off," said Sgt. David Lund of the Appleton Police Department.
Police said the woman suffered minor injuries and no one else was hurt.
The naked man also punched the windows of a motorist who tried distracting him when he was attacking the woman, according to police.
Once police arrived, officials said the 18-year-old Neenah man yelled at officers to "shoot him." Officials used a stun gun on the man and handcuffed him. He was also transported to a local hospital.
Police believe he was experiencing delirium and had been using drugs.
"Typically when we see this type of behavior there is drug use associated with that. We do believe there was drug use prior to the incident, unknown exactly what the specific drug may have been," said Lund.
Lund added investigators are still trying out how the man got on the highway in the first place.
"There was no other vehicle that they found close by, they did not find any other clothing nearby, so they are really wondering where he came from," said Lund.
The man is being held at a local hospital.
The Appleton Police Department plans to refer several charges to the Outagamie County District Attorney's Office including; disorderly conduct and battery.
