Yellow road paint leaks into Fond du Lac River
FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WLUK) -- About 30 gallons of watered-down yellow road paint leaked into the Fond du Lac River Thursday.
The fire department says the spill came from Fond du Lac Co. Highway Garage on Dixie Street. An employee had washed out the pavement making machine, releasing diluted yellow paint into the storm system and into the river.
Typically the paint would be washed and treated in the sanitary sewer. The commissioner says the employee accidentally washed it into the wrong system.
The Fond du Lac County Highway Commissioner says the paint is organic in nature and not harmful to the environment.
The fire and public works departments are flushing the paint out of the storm sewer and into the sanitary system.
