Lawrence student competes on 'Jeopardy!'
APPLETON (WLUK) -- Since she was in middle school, Allison Holley says she hasn't missed an episode of Jeopardy!
"I grew up watching 'Jeopardy!' with my mom, so it's awesome," she told FOX 11 News.
The Lawrence senior has dreamed of going on the show.
So she took an online test for the College Championship, not thinking she would make it -- but she did. She was one of 15 students chosen out of about 5,000.
"Dec. 2 I got a call, 'we want you for 'Jeopardy!'" Holley exclaimed.
After another test and an audition in Chicago, Holley got the official call.
"I jumped up and down a little. I was in a grocery store, some people looked at me weird. I was completely shocked!" she told us.
To prepare, she practiced with her family in Racine.
"I stood and I had a click pen to buzz in to kind of get the timing down," Holley described.
Jan. 10 and 11, Holley and her mom went to California for taping.
"It was incredible! It was kind of a blur. It hasn't really started to feel real until we've gotten closer to air date," said Holley.
The long-time fan told FOX 11 she was a little star struck being there.
"Even just seeing the set, they walked us out there like it's just another room. Like, 'no guys! This is the "Jeopardy!" set!'" Holley exclaimed.
Holley is the first Lawrence student to compete in the college tournament.
"So many of the other students were from big name schools like MIT and NYU, and so getting to represent Lawrence as well as liberal arts was really great," she told us.
Holley said she's proud of herself for taking the plunge.
"I am. I went out there and I had a great time and I'd love to do it again, but the contract says no," she explained, meaning this was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
