Firefighters determine what caused Ripon apartment fire
RIPON (WLUK) -- Officials have determined what caused a fire that forced 14 people from their homes at an apartment complex in Ripon.
Fire Chief Tim Saul says the fire was caused by cigarette butts on an outside balcony.
The fire broke out around 5 p.m. Monday at the Valley Crest Apartments on Douglas Street. One person was injured and treated at the scene.
The apartment building has significant damage, with seven units affected. The Red Cross assisted residents with finding places to stay Monday night, according to the building manager.
