APPLETON (WLUK) -- Cars, cars and more cars.

That's what visitors experienced at the 40th annual Appleton Car Show and Swap Meet.

The event is held at Pierce Park and is hosted by the Appleton - Fox Cities Kiwanis Club.

The show started back in 19-76 with only 316 cars on display, but that tripled by the fifth year.

Now, it's one of the largest free car shows in the Midwest.

It draws over 15,000 people and features nearly 1,200 cars.

"There are 3 and 4 generations of people coming to this event and believe it or not, there are many people in the area who come to the show. It's a great family event," said Jim Buchman, Appleton Old Car Show and Swap Meet co-chairman.

The car show has been one of the Kiwanis Club's largest fundraisers.

To date, it has raised over $950,000.
