Boy donates birthday money to K-9 program
SEYMOUR (WLUK) -- Some area children turned a birthday party into a chance to make a difference.
Instead of presents, the birthday boy asked his friends for money to donate to the Seymour Police Department.
The money is to help the department get a K-9.
Ten-year-old Caden Luben says he already had too many toys, so he wanted to help instead.
He ended up raising $150.
Caden and his friend showed up at the police department Friday, and handed over the money.
Caden says he heard about the department's efforts during the announcements at school.
"I think it's amazing in a small community, you really have the opportunity to see neat things like this." said Richard Buntrock, Seymour Police Department. "It serves us well, because we put a lot of effort into connecting with our children and community."
The department is looking to raise $90,000. That money will go toward not only the dog, but also a vehicle and training for an officer.
The department says right now, it has about $42,000.
