Fond du Lac police arrest suspect in naked home invasions

FOND DU LAC – Police say a Fond du Lac man is now under arrest for allegedly entering unlocked homes, naked. He is also being held for attempted sexual assault.

"He did admit to going into three homes and we're investigating a fourth,” said Fond du Lac Police Lt. Andy Gill.

Gill says the three homes the 26-year-old man admitted to entering – starting in late June – are on the city’s southeast side, near Primrose Lane and Dewberry Drive.

"I like to call it Pleasantville," said Mike Retzlaff, who lives in the neighborhood.

Retzlaff says the area he and his family have called home for the past five years has been on high alert ever since the first home invasion on June 24. Police say in that incident and later ones - the suspect got in through unlocked doors.

"Where before we were kind of leaving the doors unlocked, we made sure, when we left and went to work, the doors were locked," said Retzlaff.

Now Fond du Lac police say the man suspected in the home invasions is himself locked up.

"He admitted to entering three homes while being nude, and he did touch one adult female while she was sleeping," Gill said.

"Did she know that this had happened to her?" asked FOX 11’s Bill Miston.

"That's when she woke up," Gill replied.

The suspect is in the Fond du Lac County Jail, under arrest for attempted second-degree sexual assault, burglary and lewd/lascivious behavior.

"I do not know his motivation,” said Gill. “However investigators are determining that."

Police say they are also investigating the suspect's involvement in a fourth home invasion incident. Gill wouldn't say what led police to the man – who is not being named at this time – only saying the public played a big part.

"We do work well with our community and they were able to assist in our investigation," he said.

One thing police say that can assist you in keeping unwanted people out of your home – clothed or not – locking your doors.
