Fire forces residents of 24 apartment units from their homes in Appleton
APPLETON (WLUK) -- The people who live in 24 apartment units were forced from their homes as a result of a fire Friday afternoon.
Firefighters say they were called to 3132 N. Ballard Rd. just after 1:45 p.m. for reports of alarms sounding, smoke in the hallway and a power outage. Residents had already been told to evacuate the building by the time firefighters arrived.
Once they got on scene, firefighters noticed smoke on the second floor. As they made sure everyone was already out of the building, firefighters found a fire in the ceiling of a second-floor apartment. The fire was quickly put out. No injuries were reported.
Because of damage to the apartment, power has been shut off to the building. A dollar amount of the damage was not available.
Firefighters did not have an exact count of the number of residents displaced as of Friday evening. The Red Cross was called in to help.
Investigators are still looking into what caused the fire.
The fire will be represented by a fourth red bulb in Appleton's Keep the Wreath Green campaign.
