Fan excitement builds ahead of Big Ten Championship Game
ASHWAUBENON (WLUK) -- You could say, it's a great day to be a Badgers fan.
"We've been very spoiled as Badgers fans for the success this team has had really since Barry Alvarez took over but this year is on the verge of something special," said Steve Pipp.
Pipp graduated from UW-Madison a couple of years ago and decided to join the Alumni Association's Brown County Chapter.
"There's always a connection when you're a graduate from Wisconsin and there's just a tie and bond from those days back in Madison," he said.
Pipp plans to watch the Badgers game with a group of friends.
"There's no question I'll be decked out in red," Pipp said.
On Thursday afternoon, Badgers State Brewing in Ashwaubenon was quiet. but that won't be the case for long at Badgers State Brewing in Ashwaubenon because it's hosting a watch party on Saturday.
"We'll have plenty of food all day and all night. We'll be serving our On Wisconsin Red Ale and we'll have the game on, obviously, we'll have the sound cranked up so we can watch and cheer on our team," said Tom Johnson, Badgers State Brewing manager.
Wisconsin Alum and Badgers fan Joe Vanden Avond is excited for the game.
"I think, for me, one of the most exciting things about it is having Wisconsin in the national spotlight," said Joe Vanden Avond.
The manager of the Jersey Store in Ashwabenon says people have been coming in looking for Badgers clothing.
"When they get on a run like this or similar to what they had when they made it to the Final Four in basketball a few years back, you get a lot of fans that really get excited and want to come out," said Mike Walters, The Jersey Store manager.
To show support for the Badgers, Gov. Scott Walker proclaimed Friday "Wisconsin Badgers Wear Red Day."
