GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- What's one way to kickoff the Green Bay Packers home opener? Hold a free concert.

Rock and roll music echoed throughout the Stadium District uniting fans wearing green and gold Saturday.

"The Packers are always giving back to the community," one Packers fan said. "So I think it's great and we probably can't find a venue like this with any other NFL team."

Concert goers were excited to see both 'Blues Traveler' and 'Everclear' playing at the Packers first-time Kickoff Weekend event.

"I never heard of Everclear so that's new for me, but Blues Traveler oh yeah, never been able to see them so this is a great opportunity, especially a great way to start the Packers season," Tom McDaniel said.

One fan said the reverse, "I don't know the other band, but I've heard Everclear."

Visitors also toured Lambeau Field and checked out the new Johnsonville Tailgate Village.

FOX 11 talked to a Seahawks fan who said it's hard not to like the Packers atmosphere.

"We just got done with the tour," Tammy Hiatt said. "It was awesome. You do come out being a Green Bay Packers fan, you really do."

Hiatt is from Tacoma, Washington and wasn't afraid to invade Packers country with her blue and lime green shirt.

"Everybody is so friendly," Hiatt said. "I went to get a phone charger and the girl could have said 'you're going down tomorrow' but instead she said 'good luck on your loss tomorrow'. That's how sweet people are."

Visitors say the Kickoff event definitely brought people together regardless of what football jersey they were wearing.

The Green Bay Police Department estimated 1,500 to 3,000 people atteneded the event.

The last concert held at Lambeau Field was Billy Joel. More than 40,000 of his fans packed the stadium in June.

The Packers have said in the past they plan to host two concerts in the same weekend but that hasn't happened yet.

The Packers' season opener against the Seahawks is Sunday.

Kickoff is at 3:25. You can watch the game right here on FOX 11.
