Driver who hit survey worker won't be ticketed

Authorities on scene after a survey crew worker was hit on the Hwy. 172

GREEN BAY - The driver who hit a survey crew worker in Brown County earlier this week will not be ticketed, sheriff's officials have announced.

The crash happened Monday morning on the ramp from eastbound Hwy. 172 ramp onto northbound Interstate 43. The victim was a 64-year-old Hilbert man, who was working for a private company based in Appleton. He was taken to the hospital.

The driver was a 20-year-old man from the New Franken area.

The Brown Co. Sheriff's Office says, based on witness statements and physical evidence, the driver was attentive and not speeding, but could not avoid the worker who walked, then jogged into the lane of traffic. There were no devices to warn drivers of the workers ahead of time.

The crash happened just through a curve and over a slight crest, sheriff's deputies say. The worker was wearing high-visibility clothes.

The worker's condition is improving, investigators say.
