Digging Deeper: Is Fond du Lac Wisconsin's most boring city?

FOND DU LAC (WLUK) -- When it comes to Wisconsin's most boring city, Fond du Lac tops the list, at least according to an article on Business Insider.

So is it?

FOX 11's Alex Ronallo dug a little deeper to try to answer that question, here's what she found out:

One subject has been the talk of Fond du Lac lately.

"There is a rumor going around that they think Fond du Lac might be boring!" exclaimed Julie Balson the owner of the Gallery & Frame Shop on Main Street in Fond du Lac.

"I'm kinda sad to hear that!" said Sarah Schaefer an employee of Annie's Fountain City Cafe, also on Main Street.

"It's anything but boring!" added Craig Molitor the President of the Fond du Lac Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.

To find the truth, we started at the CVB. They had a dog there...we were off to a great start.

"There's things to do and see all throughout the year. There's awesome places to eat. There's shows to go to. The downtown is an increasingly vibrant area," Molitor described.

The we visited our friends at Fond du Lac Fire Rescue.

"The lake is a big draw, especially in the summer time. We have a great, Lakeside Park is probably one of the nicest parks in the state," said Captain Garth Schumacher.

We checked out the park...which was empty...although to be fair it WAS about 4:00 pm on a 26 degree afternoon.

So on we went to see some special visitors at the children's museum: Santa and Mrs. Claus.

"You're not from around here. Would you be here in Fond du Lac if it was boring?" Alex asked Mrs. Claus.

"No! We think Fond du Lac is awesome! We've got that amazing light show at the park and what else, Santa?" responded Mrs. Claus.

"Well we have the downtown parade early in December and we always come down to the Children's museum, it's a great place to be!" added Santa himself.

Finally we headed downtown.

"There's five art galleries within walking distance of my gallery. So tonight is our art walk!" Balson told us.

The news was almost all positive....

But we did get some balance!

"I do not hear, always, the best things about Fond du Lac. Usually us teenagers go to Oshkosh to do fun stuff," explained Schaefer, which Molitor said is a fair view.

"Any community is what you make it to be and this community has everything it takes to have a great time," he told us.

In the end, Molitor said, when it comes to the "boring ranking," any publicity is good publicity.

"That's right! You're here and we're talking about Fond du Lac," he told FOX 11.

Business insider listed Milwaukee as the state's most interesting city.

We reached out to the publication to see how they ranked the cities. We did not hear back yet.
