Cruise for Cancer benefits cancer support groups

GREEN BAY - Some local cancer support organizations got a little help Tuesday.

Jerry Parins, a former Packers security director and cancer survivor, presented $104,000 to seven groups.

The money was raised from last year's Cruise for Cancer.

The donation total is a single-year record for the motorcycle ride.

Parins says the Cruise for Cancer’s cause is to generate hope.

"I have an understanding of how devastating cancer is initially when you're told about it, but once you learn what you gotta do you get a formula to fight it, you get stronger and that's all part of this as well is to restore faith and belief in fighting cancer,” said Parins.

Parins says the event has grown over the years. The first ride raised $27,000.

Parins says he hopes to continue to raise money to help those affected by cancer.
