County executive Troy Streckenbach and the Port of Green Bay are proposing to rename the westernmost island of the Cat Island chain for Neil McKloskey. McKloskey served as president of the Brown County Harbor Commission from 1998 until this year, and he continues to serve on the commission.
According to Streckenbach's office, the port became a self-sufficient enterprise fund under McKloskey's leadership. The port's economic impact is estimated at $83 million a year. The Cat Island chain also recently saw an $18 million restoration to improve habitat for fish and birds and create a scenic view that will help develop the area into a sustainable ecosystem.
The full Brown County Board is expected to take up the renaming resolution Wednesday night.
