Break-in suspect arrested in Appleton

APPLETON - Police used a stun gun on a man suspected of breaking in to a house late Monday night.

Officers say they were called to the 100 block of E. Franklin St. around 11:15 p.m. for a report of an unknown person inside someone's home. The suspect had left the house and was seen on a bicycle in the area.

Within minutes, police say an officer found a man in the area of Appleton St. and W. Franklin St. who matched the description the caller gave. The officer tried to contact the suspect; the suspect took his hand off the bike he was pushing and put it in his jacket pocket while continuing to approach the officer. Police say the officer told the man to stop and to pull his hand out of his pocket, but he refused, so the officer shot him with a Taser stun gun. The man, a 28-year-old from Appleton, was arrested. He was not injured.

During the investigation, police say they found on the suspect property belonging to residents of the E. Franklin St. home. Residents identified the man as well as items taken from their house and their vehicle.

The man was also carrying 12 Xbox video games; police could not determine where those came from as the man would not speak to investigators.

The suspect has not been formally charged in the case.
