MARINETTE - Bay Area Medical Center and Aurora Health Care have agreed to a partnership which will result in Aurora taking part ownership of the Marinette hospital.

Aurora leaders say, under the partnership, Aurora will put money into the hospital and bring advanced services to the facility.

The Milwaukee-based provider has doctors and clinics in the Marinette area, but its closest hospital is Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay. The agreement will give BAMC access to Aurora providers as well as expertise in other areas of hospital management.

"Aurora is pleased to partner with BAMC to share clinical best practices and expertise," Sandra Ewald, president of Aurora Health Care's Green Bay, Manitowoc and Marinette Patient Service Market, said in a news release. "We are committed to health care in this community and this joint venture solidifies that."

Plans for the next few months call for a new board of directors to be established, then developing a recommendation for facility, clinic and doctor planning. BAMC will also work toward having the same electronic medical records system as Aurora.

The deal is expected to be finalized in a ceremony Wednesday.
