Basement fire caused by dehumidifier
APPLETON - Fire crews responded to a basement fire in Appleton Saturday night.
It happened around 7 p.m. in the 1200 block of W. Lawrence St.
Authorities say crews saw thick smoke coming from the basement of the house.
Appleton fire officials say there is heavy smoke damage throughout the residence.
The Appleton Fire Department reminds everyone that many models of dehumidifiers have been recalled due to serious fire and burn hazards.
If you own a dehumidifier, you are encouraged to go to www.cpsc.gov and search dehumidifiers, to find out if your dehumidifier is part of the recall.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. There are no estimates on damage. No one was injured in the incident.
