APPLETON - A celebration of art has returned to downtown Appleton.
The "Art on the Town" series kicked off its ninth year Friday.
Different themes are celebrated on different days and Friday's theme was "Fiber Rain."
Parts of downtown such as benches were made into works of art with yarn and other fibers. Paintings were also on display.
Those involved with the series say its a great way for local artists to show their work.
"Its a great opportunity for regional and local artists to kind of get their names out there and to have people see what they do. I know that there's a number of places where artists are actually showing people how they create their artwork and I think its an awesome opportunity," said Oliver Zornow, arts education manager.
The series runs on the third Friday of the month from June through September.
