APPLETON (WLUK) -- A local club is making a difference in the lives of veterans.

The Appleton West Rotary Club presented a nearly $40,000 check to the Fox Valley Veterans Council.

The proceeds came from their recent Tasting for the Troops fundraiser.

The event collected money for the Veterans Village Project in Appleton.

The goal of the program is to help low income veterans in need of housing.

Organizers say every little bit can help.

"Every funding mechanism that we can find to help meet the goal is very, very important. And for the rotary club to step up and sponsor this event, it was well attended, it was just remarkable; we're very happy," said president of Wisconsin Veterans Village, Jim Lincoln.

The Veterans Village hopes to provide housing for single veterans as well as veterans with families. It also plans to have assisted living and end-of-life care.
