APPLETON - Appleton police and fire departments are investigating a suspicious fire they believe was arson.

On Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 6:12 a.m. officials from the police and fire department were called to a garage fire on W. River Road.

The fire had destroyed a vehicle and caused structural damage to the home.

Investigators believe this fire is connected with other incidents that happened in the same area, around the same time.

Prior to the fire on W. River Road two vehicle fires occurred on Royal Court in the Town of Menasha. Throughout the weekend a total of 6 vehicles were discovered with damage consistent with arson fires.

There were also several incidents of property damage and vehicle entries which appear related to the fires. All the incidents occurred on the south side of Appleton in an area between Valley Road and the Fox River and they appear to have taken place during the early morning hours of August 23rd.
