We have an update to a recent FOX 11 Investigates report on odors in Brown County. We previously reported that Sanimax received citations from Brown County after residents complained about odors at the animal rendering plant in Howard.Friday morning, a judge ordered Sanimax to pay a fine for violating the county's nuisance odor ordinance. The county had issued two citations to Sanimax last year.Under an agreement reached with the county, Sanimax pleaded no contest to one citation and will have to pay a fine of $1,387. The other citation was dismissed. The company says it is working to reduce odors at the facility and has spent $3 million on infrastructure improvements over the past few years.Friday's court hearing only dealt with the county citations. Sanimax is also facing a civil lawsuit filed on behalf of several residents.Attorneys for Sanimax were not in court today. FOX 11 reached out them after the hearing but they did not return our calls.
