NEW LONDON - The Waupaca County Sheriff's Department says a deputy was wounded during a standoff and shootout Friday afternoon.

Around 3 p.m., officers responded to a home Manske Road to serve an arrest warrant. They say the suspect was wanted for domestic abuse and aggravated battery.

When officers arrived, authorities say a man inside the home shot at officers. The officers then returned fire.

In that exchange, a Waupaca County Sheriff's Deputy was struck by a bullet. Authorities are not saying where he was hit, but say the deputy has non-life threatening injuries.

The man was eventually arrested, but has not yet been charged.

The Sheriff's Department is recommending multiple charges, including attempted homicide.
