Driver convicted in fatal crash
APPLETON (WLUK) -- The driver in a fatal crash was convicted Wednesday of reckless homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle.
Blake Doxtator, 19, will be sentenced Feb. 26 for the Oct. 31, 2016 crash in Oneida which killed a passenger, Braxton Kasee, 13.
According to the criminal complaint, Doxtator and friends had been out trick-or-treating. He first claimed he hit a deer -- but investigators found no evidence of that. Then he claimed he swerved to hit a deer. Others in the car, however, said they had been travelling very fast -- a Snapchat showed them going 97 mph -- hit a bump and Doxtator lost control of vehicle. One of the other passengers said Doxtator told them to say a deer jumped out.
A volunteer firefighter, John Brocker, died of a heart attack while working the crash.
