Colorado man accused of traveling to Suamico to kidnap teen
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WLUK) -- A Colorado man has been charged with traveling to Suamico to kidnap a 16-year-old girl.
Authorities say Curtis Bowser, 22, had been communicating with the girl online for about two years. Both Bowser and the girl claimed to be dating, but said they had never met in person. The girl said her mother had taken away her computer and cellphone over concerns about the chats, but Bowser sent her a new cellphone for her to use to contact him.
According to the criminal complaint, the girl initially agreed to go with Bowser when he arrived at her house. However, when she realized he was going through with plans to kidnap her, she told her mother, who contacted the sheriff's department.
Authorities contacted Bowser's cellphone provider for permission to track his phone, and saw that he was traveling toward Wisconsin. A state Department of Justice agent first saw Bowser's SUV near Beaver Dam on Tuesday, and authorities followed him to Suamico, where he was arrested.
In a search of Bowser's phone, authorities say they found a photo of the girl posing naked. They also found marijuana and a bong in Bowser's SUV.
If convicted of attempted abduction of a child, child enticement, possession of THC -- the active component of marijuana -- and drug paraphernalia, Bowser could be sentenced to more than 33 years in prison.
