Appleton man charged in woman's overdose death
BERLIN (WLUK) -- An Appleton man is charged in the drug overdose death of a Berlin woman.
Samuel Moreno-Baza, 33, is facing first-degree reckless homicide and delivering drugs charges in the death of 31-year-old Lacey Chier.
A Green County judge set a $50,000 cash bond in court Thursday.
On July 11, 2016, Berlin Police were called to a home in the 100 block of Swetting Street for a report of a woman found dead.
According to the criminal complaint, Chier's mother hadn't heard from her daughter in 10 days and went to the home to check on her.
Police found a syringe in Chier's hand and other drug paraphernalia inside the home, the complaint says.
An autopsy ruled the cause of her death a heroin overdose.
Investigators were able to tie Moreno-Baza to Chier's death after reviewing text messages sent between Chier and Moreno-Baza, arranging a drug deal, the criminal complaint says.
Moreno-Baza is due back in court Nov. 28.
