OSHKOSH - The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh plans to have a new chancellor in place around the beginning of next year.
On Thursday, university leaders announced a timeline for the search process to replace Richard Wells. Wells is retiring at the end of August after 14 years on the job.
The university plans to spend the next month seeking out members for a search-and-screen committee. Plans call for the committee to be made up of 11 faculty members and two members each from among university academic staff, classified staff, student body, administration and the public. On March 31, UW System President Ray Cross is scheduled to visit the university and officially charge the committee. In April, the job description will be finalized and advertised. Over the next four months, the UW System and UW-Oshkosh plan to hire a consultant to help in the search. Semifinalist interviews are set for August, with the committee making its recommendations to a committee of UW regents over the next month. Finalist interviews are anticipated in early September, with a hiring decision made by early October.
The next chancellor is expected to start work around Jan. 1.
