MADISON (AP) - The University of Wisconsin System is partnering with the state's chief jobs agency to create a $2 million seed fund to help bring technology ideas developed at UW campuses to the marketplace.

The partnership between UW and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. was announced at a Capitol news conference Thursday.

The new seed fund will provide up to $75,000 in two stages to support entrepreneurs. The money will be available for ideas from all disciplines, including the humanities, social sciences and liberal arts.

Incoming UW President Ray Cross says the university's labs and classrooms are full of ideas "ripe for commercialization" and he is pleased with the partnership to support entrepreneurs.

The first application period begins in March.
