APPLETON - Two Appleton homes have been damaged by a fire that spread from one home to the other.

The fire started about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at 3601 E. Edgemere Dr. A neighbor saw smoke coming from the home and called 911.

The heat from the fire started the home next door on fire. It spread up into the roof and attic of the second home. No one was inside either home.

Fire officials say the home at 3601 has extensive damage and is unlivable. The neighboring home also has significant damage to the inside and outside of the home. People living in that home have also been displaced. The Red Cross is helping out.

Fire officials are still trying to figure out how the fire started.
