SHEBOYGAN - A woman was cited after she allegedly drove a truck through the roof of a garage on the city's east side.
Police say just after 7:30 Saturday evening, Amanda Jefferson was behind the wheel of a Dodge Ram pickup truck.
Lt. Doug Teunissen with the Sheboygan Police Department said Jefferson was headed east on Washington Court when she lost control. The truck veered off the road and into a yard. The vehicle hit an embankment and crashed through the roof of a garage on Niagara Avenue. Officials say the truck, the garage, and a vehicle parked in the garage sustained heavy damage.
After hearing the loud noise, some neighbors came out to see what happened. Josh Biederwolf said he took out his cell phone and called police as Jefferson walked away.
Biederwolf said, "She crashed through there and crawled out of the truck and just started walking away and said, 'I'm bleeding, I have to go home and he has good insurance,' and just kept walking."
Police later found Jefferson at an apartment on N. 5th Street.
Officers took Jefferson to a local hospital for minor injuries. She was cited for operating while under the influence, operating while suspended, hit and run, and failure to maintain control of a vehicle.
Those who live in the area say they're glad no one was seriously hurt.
"It's just amazing that the kids weren't outside. It was scary," said neighbor Vanessa Mason.
