Shawano County officials received a call around 1 a.m. Wednesday after a horse fell into the well in the town of Grant, which is in western Shawano County.
One of the horses back legs was stuck in the well.
A local fire department used its fire hose, chains and a tractor to free the 1,500 pound animal.
Officials say the horse was able to walk on its own. It will be checked out today.
The horse was owned by the homeowner.
