"The Frozen Chosen," a documentary about sturgeon spearing on the Lake Winnebago system, has been posted to YouTube.

A premiere was held earlier this month in Fond du Lac for the documentary, which then aired on television in the Milwaukee area. The film follows two families, the Schumachers and Muches, over three spearing seasons.

According to the DNR, director Steve Boettcher made the documentary available on YouTube because of popular demand. Boettcher is an Appleton native and graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, who began his professional career as a photographer at WLUK-TV.

The documentary will only be available on YouTube through the end of February, Boettcher told the DNR.
