MADISON - A BadgerCare Plus phone scheme is targeting people in the Fox Valley.
The state Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) says callers are telling people they can get $200 from the state and are asking for their bank account information in order to make the deposit.
When the people being targeted refuse to hand over the information, the callers hang up.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) runs BadgerCare Plus. The department says anyone calling from the program will already have your account information, but may ask you to verify your birthdate.
DATCP says you should never give financial information over the phone unless you made the call.
If you have received one of these fake BadgerCare Plus calls, you can file a complaint or get more information from DATCP at 1-800-422-7128.
