GREEN BAY -- The Packers offseason program is underway, and one player is happy to be working out with the only NFL team he's ever known. Running back James Starks was a free agent this offseason, reportedly signing a two-year contract to stay in Green Bay."I really didn't know how close I was to going somewhere else," said Starks at Green Bay's Austin Straubel International Airport on Monday. "I just thank God for this opportunity again and I'm going to try to make the most of it."Despite rookie Eddie Lacy getting the majority of the Packers carries last season, Starks rushed for a career high 3 touchdowns with a career-best 5.5 yards-per-carry average in the 2013 regular season. He expects a similarly potent backfield this season."I really didn't know how close I was to going somewhere else.'"James Starks, Packers Running Back"It's going to be fun, we're going to have fun this year," said Starks. "[Running back] DuJuan [Harris] back and everything, everybody had a year in the system so it's going to be exciting, competition and we're just going to make each other better."Starks is heading into his 5th NFL season after being a a 6th round pick by the Packers in 2010. He appeared in 13 regular season games last year, but has had injury problems throughout his career. He hopes those are behind him moving forward."Just getting better, really," said Starks of his focus during the offseason program. "Try to get as healthy as possible, get in the best shape possible for the season."
