Ministry Health Care, which owns Mercy, announced a partnership with Pennsylvania-based Select Medical to open Select Specialty Hospital-Fox Valley as soon as next month. The 25-bed long-term acute care hospital will be housed on Mercy's third floor and owned by Select Medical.
"The kinds of patients we specialize in are often on mechanical ventilators, unable to breathe on their own," said Robert Padalino, regional president for Select Medical, in a news release. "Others have complex wounds or need extended periods of renal or cardiac care. We are proud to work alongside Ministry Health Care and others in the Fox Valley to offer these services to a very special kind of patient population in northeastern Wisconsin."
Currently, patients in need of the type of care provided by LTAC hospitals are sent to Select Medical-owned facilities in Madison or Milwaukee.
Once Select Specialty Hospital-Fox Valley is fully running, it is expected to employ as many as 90 people. Job creation may not be immediate, hospital managers say.
